Of all names to pick as my login! I lost Fanny the other night to a possum. 12:20 am, sound asleep and heard a scream. Other chicks and the rooster were going crazy. I went out to the run to find a possum had grabbed my favorite Fanny and was chewing on her butt. So angry, I just grabbed Fanny out of the clutches of the beast and ran her to safety. She was far gone by that time and in shock. Went back to kill the kritter, but of course, he was gone by then. Went back to Fanny and so was she. I've buried her back by the woods and am making a memorial stone in her honor.
Secured the place where I think the possum got in and when I checked it yesterday, it was apparent the possum had been back. Tried to curl back to chicken wire to gain entry, but to no avail.
Needless to say, I'm locking the troops in the henhouse every night now. Talk about closing the barn door after the horse gets out!
