Echoing all that everyone said so far, I am sorry. I lost over 40 birds this past summer due to a dog team next door. The owner reimbursed me after I went through three sets of chicks. We electrified immediately and I just decided determination was my only option. Now I have 18 layers and get a dozen a day, give or take. I will not let another animal deter me and I always have more chickens than I need (for winter warmth in coop and in case of disease/predators). They are no longer pets either, but we like each other for obvious reasons! Best hopes, I hope that you come out the VICTOR in this, not the dog.

Welcome to the club: membership initiation is massive lost of chickens due to dogs! I've kept Chickens for years and have had many predators attack. Only dogs have been successful at taking out whole flocks or nearly so in one attack for me. It's a never ending battle, even if you can eliminate the current threat, neighbors just buy more and let them roam. I haven't and won't give up even if my shovel rarely gets a chance to "cool off". (Can't wait til bears and mountain lions start showing up)

I hope the beast can be found and destroyed. Last May our neighbors mean dog came in my barn and killed all but 4 of my 23 4 wk old chicks. He was just in there to kill. The owner had him put down. I feel terrible for you. I'm soo sorry!

take a break for awhile and let your heart heal.then follow your own advice.there are people who have raised chickens forever and still lose some of them.we are always fixing and repairing our coops and runs.thats part of it,trying to outsmart the predators.i have what you said,6ft chain link around the entire yard and coops so there are 3 layers of protection plus the dogs.i feel if the predator still gets them then he won today.just work on one part of your plan at a time until it is all done and then we can get you all the chickens you want.
don't let the dog win.
