Just wanted to introduce myself. My father was a dairy farmer but we never had chickens. I decided a couple of years ago I wanted to raise my own flock for my family. Well, I took the plunge and we now have 2 Plymouth barred rocks and 4 Rhode Island reds. They are almost 8 weeks and I'm hoping the coop will be finished by next week so they can move out of my garage. Love all the great info on this site and can't wait to learn more!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! You've picked some great breeds for egg production. My RIR and barred rock pullets are laying 6-7 eggs per bird per week. The first year we had chicks, we didn't have the coop ready until the birds were about 12 weeks old! Boy, does that get frustrating when you're ready to move them outside. Best wishes for a speedy coop completion!

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on the new chicks and good luck with the coop build! If you have any questions about anything, that is what we are here for.

Welcome to our flock!
