The farmers almanac is forecasting a cold winter with heavy wet snow throughout for us here in the north.

Other observations that support our cold winter forecast include:

* Large spider webs everywhere
* Thick hickory nutshells
* Thick and tight corn shucks
* Squirrels suddenly storing nuts instead of eating them
* Thick bark on trees
* Trees already turning colors
* Earlier than normal migration of starlings and geese
* Acorns falling profusely off trees
* Bears searching for foods in backyards (earlier than usual)

with the talk of bears lately I thought I would post this

see ya on the ski slopes people!!!!

im just thinking.....
I have oil heat
I dont have a snow blower
I live 10 miles from small town, 15 from larger town
I need to stock up

Im going to be adding 5 gallons of diesel to my tank every week to mix with the heating oil. I just cant afford it. Im lucky I live 1/2 mile from the oil guy but he still wont come out for less than $200 which wont even get me much.

i know Im lucky, my grandparents whos house this was bought from him for a long time so I think hes ok with it and my aunt across the street does the same thing I think because last winter she was getting as often as I was.

I've already noticed the geese practicing flight formations near the river. They normally don't do it until closer to October. So I've wondered what our winter will be like...

Brrrrr... Sounds cold! Thanks for that link, btw. I looked up our forecast and it doesn't look to bad for the Southeast, thank heavens! I HATE the cold.

same here in Michigan...they have been forming for a month now. my walnut trees are already dumping leaves and it has been unseasonably cool.

our fuel oil is about $650 a month!
