farmers almanac forecasts harsh winter...

We're getting geese migrating through already here in PA and the big flocks don't usually hit until October. We spent most of this week splitting wood! We got lucky this year the state went through trimming trees and they were happy to "dump" the wood on our property! WooHoo!

While we were splitting I swear I was overrun with spiders and the wooly caterpillars are almost completely black!

Last year we didn't use our heating system until december. We have a wood burning masonry heater. But now you all went and did it and dh wants a snow blower attachment for his tractor!!!

We heat with a woodburner. My husband has been cutting and stacking wood all summer long. We have ALOT of it out there for now. I don't think it will take long to burn through though.

We also have a wall heater that runs on a 70 pound tank. We keep that for at night only, and only the really cold nights. Neither heat source runs on electric.

We always prepare for the coldest winters. We stock up on everything and insulate the outbuildings for the animals with straw.

Kinda hard to believe since we're still having 95+ degree weather! But then I looked our area up and it says that the Southwest will not have much change this year.

I was hoping for some rain!

We've had a bit of a drought this past 6 weeks, so I welcome some rain from Hanna and her sisters. (or brothers)

I think because of the drought, our trees are already turning.....this is unusual for this part of the country....but..I'm also looking forward to fall. Winter, I'll worry about after fall.

One season at a time.

I dont really mind the cold, snowy winters. Guess I live in the right state for that.

Of course I am not looking forward to an enormous gas bill this winter. We do keep the thermostat low though. I always say I would rather be a little cold and put layers of clothes on than be totally out and freeze to death!
