My hens are a bit slow to lay but lay well in our heat and all winter long once they get going.

Color is very important if you are using other breeds to introduce that color. This is what people are doing.

I hate to tell you this but blood against any color feather is an invitation to a feast!

Yes, I know but I am finding it more in my whites...just the slightest injury and they are feasting and downright killing. I have never seen this before. I like processing white chickens but not if I have to deal with this behavior. These whites were raised with blacks and not ONE of the black chickens do this. Not many people with white chickens to ask...Just thought it's a color contrast thing since this is the same breed... just a different color.

What breeds re you talking about?

So, in the blatant interest of planting seeds.....

There is a very distinct need for some folks to pick up the Speckled Sussex in a focused and serious way. They are teetering too close, and are an excellent resource. Besides that, they are rudely beautiful.

My kneejerk reaction as to the 5 best "dual purpose" breeds: Rocks, Reds, Dorkings, Sussex, NHs.

What are your thoughts on dominiques? I've been thinking about picking them as my breed.The all-American feel the dominiques have really gets me pumped.
