Is it actually straw? If so, I would not recommend.

Yes. All of the reviews seemed good but I was skeptical as I know straw tends to not be great for actual bedding outside the nest box.
I don't give online reviews much credence.

I personally like straw for bedding in the chicken coop. It smells really good and stays loose and doesn't mat down like hay does. It is not super absorbent like the pine pellets are, but it stays dry I think because it allows air in to dry out droppings. I think since that particular product is cleaned it's probably a good choice (though expensive).

Update: I have been using it for around a week now and I am a big fan of it so far. It is absorbent, not dusty, and 1 bag will last me 2 bedding changes as it doesn’t get compacted like shavings. I did mix in around a bag of pine pellets as I still had some laying around. I am liking it and I don’t think I will have to change it out more than once every month or 2.
