For 9 years I've used a ladder roost that was about 10' long and about 4' high, with about 6-7 boards leading up to the top one (where everyone loved to roost). I only have 4 girls left and I think one hurt her leg badly jumping down from that high, so I want to change it immediately to be only about 10" off the floor. Would this work: Buy hand rail hardware and attach them on the wall and then attach those to underneath a 2x4 against the wall. The wall that their roost faces is covered with plywood, otherwise I could just make several short pieces of wood and nail them in perpendicular to the studs and put the roost on those.
Any other super easy ways to make a very low roost? Thanks
Oh.....since I only have 4 hens left, it only needs to be about 4-6' long.

I think a board, like you said, would be as easy as pie. Also, if it's outside in the run , you could use a long branchto each side. Tie it up with string, or nail it up. Good luck!!!

I like using saw horses for my chickens and turkeys. They are easy to move around while cleaning the coop.

If that is too tall you could cut the legs down a few inches...

Thanks lilchick.........that's a great idea!
Do you ever have problems with it being unstable at all?
I like this idea!

No my turkeys even roost on them. I just set one end up against the wall to stabilize it.

When time to clean the coop I take the saw horses outside and scrape and hose them off!
