I've heard from some old timers that California White Rock Roosters where good fryers and are ready to butcher in 6 weeks. Has anyone experienced this? what is the difference between California White rock Roos and Plymouth white rock roos? Are they the same? I've been told the Plymouth take 18 to 20 weeks before butchering. Trying to find what is best with shortest amount of time for fryers.

I've never heard of a California White rock, but the only "breed" I know of that gets to that size in 6-8 weeks is the Cornish Cross (Cornish/White rock and ??? cross)

Is there a difference between Cornish/white rocks and jumbo Cornish cross?

Not really.Just better branding name. The Cornish cross is jut produced from a few different breeders. The complete makeup of the breed was made about 60 years ago and is a pretty tightly guarded secret. We know there is White Cornish, White Rock and then at least 2 other breeds. (Most likely more though. ) I have my money on Delaware being in there and maybe orpington but am in no way sure for sure.
My own mixed project I am starting is not going for as quick a growth (Looking for more like 12 weeks to reach slaughter size) but I want nice breast meat, docile, light colored, hardy and then to breed true for a true breed. I figure it will take at least 4 generations, but possibly as much as 7 to get what I want.

Good luck CCPEACE. Sounds like an ideal fryer. Cackle hatchery in Missouri said they were out of California white rocks for the season on their web site but didn't give any info about them. Guess i'll have to do some more research. Thanks for your input.

I wasn't aware Cackle had that "breed". Lol They are my local place. I got almost all of mine from them.
Thanks for the luck.I will need it lol

California Whites are a Leghorn mixed breed. I'm guessing the California WHites are crossed with White Rocks to get a California White Rock?
