I just got my latest issue of Backyard Poultry magazine today and in it there is an article on egglaying which states that if a hen is too fat, it won't lay as many eggs. I'm curious about this because my five red star hens, who are eight months old just stopped giving me a reliable five eggs a day and have gone down to three in the last few days. I was wondering if they might be ready to moult but then this article caught my eye. I confess I give my girls too many treats but is this a possibility? Anyone heard of this before?
