It might be the combination of not enough calcium and not much proteins.
Give calcium supplements for 1- 2 weeks, always oyster flakes and/or crushed shells on the side. Give the egg shells back to them (microwaved and crumbled or cut).
And give acces to both chick feed, high on proteins, and layer feed for a while. See for yourself what they need most.
