Favorite Books/Authors????

I loved The Black Stallion series of books by Walter Farley as a kid in the 1960's; "The Odyssey" by Homer, "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte and "The Lord of the Rings" by Tolkien were my favorite reads in college in the early 1980's. Since college I have not read as much due to work, raising chickens, and now turkeys as well which requires much of my "free" time.

Where do you suggest I start?

The Black Stallion books by Walter Farley if you haven't read them. I loved them as a child and wouldn't mind reading them again when I retire which won't be too much longer. They took me on adventures around the world as did the others I mentioned.

I read Bodie and Brock Thoene during my high school years.
The Zion series were probably my favorite.
They are Christian fiction.
Set during WWII.
I will say they are hard to put down once you start reading.

Later books will portray things consistent with what happened in earlier books (like where Alex is living) but each story can stand alone and doesn't detract from earlier books if you read the books out of order. I'm a lifelong reader, and have many favorites (all my hens are named after female authors) but I'm not going to name them here, well maybe a few. First though, I will tell you what I do, when I have run through a favorite series, and don't know what's next. Go to the library and pick a book at random off the shelf, any book, don't even look at the cover. Sit down at the library and spend 15 minutes reading it. If it has grabbed your attention, check it out, if not, put it back and grab another. Another thing I do, if there is a movie I have liked, or think I may want to see, see if it is based on a book. The book is always better than the movie, IMO, and even when you know the ending, there is so much more to be learned about the characters than can be portrayed in a book. Since you like mysteries, I will recommend Nevada Barr's Anna Pidgeon series, all set in a different National Park and The Number One Ladies Detective Agency series, by Alexander McCall Smith.

Thank you so much for your help! Time to head to the library! I actually prefer to read over watching movies. So I don't really have any movie favorites that have book series. (Also, books are just WAYYY better than movies in my opinion)

I am the same way...can look at a book in our house and tell you what it's about!

I don't really have a favorite author, but I love autobiographies, biographies, and history books.

For fiction, I like:
Under the Yankee Ensign by Ralph Henry Barbour
We Thought We Heard the Angels Sing by Lt. James Whittaker
Silent Ship, Silent Sea by Robb White

And Sherlock Holmes.

I loved the Nevada Barr series as well until it came to child trafficking one and I quit.
