Favorite hen got attacked and killed by a dog, how to keep it away?

We gave it to a "animal shelter" type place to adopt him out. The place didn't look very good but it was the only place that would take him. It doesn't matter what happens now to him, I don't know and don't care, he's out of my life.

I say SSS. People who allow their pets to roam do not care about you and your property.Just take care of the problem and avoid creating a NFH situation by trying to reason with them.A fast death is all a dog who kills your livestock should get from you.

Glad you have the issue handled, but for future reference, there has to be someone in your area whos job it is to take care of strays, in my rural area we have no animal control office, the duty falls to the local sheriff's dept. and I would be willing to bet it is a similar case in your area unless your township has it's own ordinance then it would be your town chairman or other officials business. It certainly isn't the responsibility of the public to be chasing down stray and potentially dangerous animals to take to the pound.

I wish we had one in our town. The closest one is 1hr away and you have to pay $50 for them to come and get the animal with $75 for food, more if they don't have shots or are spayed/neutered. That's why people drop off or just kill them, drop off is the most often.
