I am completely rebuilding the inside of one of our coops to house 20 chickens. I currently have the PVC feeders, but they take forever to fill and my chickens still throw a lot of feed. I would love your ideas on a feeder that can hold at least one (preferably two) bag(s) of feed, is hard for chickens to waste, and won't take up a huge amount of square footage. I was thinking of building a wooden one similar to one I saw posted on another thread so it can sit tight against the wall and hold a lot of food, but it would need a lid on top that fits snugly and I would put a little chicken wire or garden fencing across the bottom opening to keep them from throwing feed:

I've seen the garbage can with the PVC elbows which I like, but I would want it to take up a little less space inside.

Have you considered the hanging tube style?

I'm thinking of the ones with a big metal tube that you hang from the ceiling, with a tray at the bottom that holds the food. You typically hang it in the middle of the pen, it probably takes up 1-3 square foot of floor space, and because chickens can eat from all sides it is good for large numbers of chickens. There is usually the option of a lid that wobbles and keeps chickens from roosting on it.

Here is an example of one for sale that holds 40 pounds of feed, and also shows the anti-perch lid on top:
