Favorite Holiday Tradition: What Makes Your Holidays Special?

The holidays are all about traditions—those little rituals, special moments, and family customs that make this season so magical. Whether it’s decorating the tree with loved ones, baking cookies for Santa, or watching the same holiday movie every year, traditions bring a sense of warmth and joy to the season.

So, what’s your favorite holiday tradition? We want to hear all about it! Do you have a unique tradition that’s been passed down through generations, or maybe you’ve started a new one that’s become a family favorite?

Let’s share the holiday cheer and discover what makes each of our celebrations special!

Check out our other holiday season favorites below:

Oh so many to choose from!
One of the oldest - the 3AM stocking opening (we open just the stocking three hours into the 25th of December)
We always open up the presents that my Aunt mails up on Christmas Eve. She likes to turn her phone off for Christmas, so this way we can call her and see can hear our reactions!
We Always have multiple trees in our living room.
Somehow every two years we come across an animal around the 21st of December and name it accordingly (the first was a chicken named Bethlehen, and then we got a Christmas kitten named Twinkle)

We have a few.

* The traditional delivery of new jammies for the holiday season on St Nicholas eve.

* The traditional setup of the Nightmare Before Christmas Tree

* The traditional Tamales on Christmas Eve

* The traditional Prime Rib and spiral ham feast on Christmas day, followed by presents and naps.

And the tradition of remembrance. First thing to go on and last thing to come off our main family tree every year are the collars of family pets we've lost. they go right up by the star. That way we keep them in our hearts and celebrate with them every year.

Right before Christmas, we take a few hours to drive through town one night and look at all of the Christmas lights and decor that people have out. There is on street in our town that’s been dubbed Christmas Card Lane because it’s the most lit up and festive street in town, so hitting that one is a must. That’s probably my favorite tradition.

We also have a tradition of making these atrocious Christmas cookies. They’re just sugar cookies with royal icing, but no one in my family is good at decorating with royal icing, so they look awful 🤣 however, it’s fun and they taste good, so that’s all that matters! Permission to laugh granted:

My family celebrates Christmas Eve dinner with my Grandparents, then we go to Christmas Eve Mass. When we get home we prepare a couple pans of farmer’s strata for Christmas breakfast. In the morning, we bake the strata and open stockings and presents. In the middle of the day, we rest, play board games, or go for a walk in the snow. In the evening my grandparents come over and we have Christmas dinner and exchange presents. We usually end up talking all together til late at night.

When Epiphany comes, we bless the house, sprinkling holy water on the door lintel and each family member. We usually bless the pets as well, and last year I trekked out in the snow to flick holy water on the birds in the coop. They were a little confused. 😂
