Favorite horse or pony breed?

My family has been in the horse breeding, training, showing, and general work horse game for at least 5 generations that I know of (that can be authenticated, let's put it that way). Here are my observations on horses:

It depends upon what you want to do with them, it depends upon your personal tastes in horse/pony type, and it really, really depends upon the individual horse. I haven't really met one breed that I absolutely wouldn't have.

Bloodlines and upbringing more than anything else determine what you get.

My family has been into dogs the same way -- and that rule goes for the dogs as well. Same for them -- haven't met one breed that I haven't found at least one individual that I really, really liked, although there are breeds that fit my personal tastes, wants, needs in a dog.

I personally have a soft spot in my heart for TBs and Arabs, find that good representatives of those two breeds are some of the best horses you will ever come across. They are intelligent, hardy, sensitive to their owners, and absolutely gutsy workaholics (something I admire in my horses and dogs). And guess what? These two breeds are very unpopular with some people! Either they came across really bad eggs or the breeds didn't really match up with the owner's experience, personality, needs/wants in a horse.

One person's Pegasus is another person's nag;)

For the things I most prefer to do (eventing, trail riding, and classical-type dressage i.e. NOT dressage shows hmph), my first two choices would probably be TB and Lipizzaner (although I have to say that the latter are definitely not for everyone).

For other purposes I'd pick other favorite breeds. And there's so much variation within breeds anyhow that I'm not sure how *much* breed matters...

My American Saddlebred! He's 22 and has been fantastic to own and ride.

and

My Arabian! I had to put her down when she was 29. I could let anyone ride her, even my little kids. She was the best and always took great care of whoever was on her back. I really miss her.
