I have 8 White Leghorns, and I have 23 acres of land that they free range on all day.
We have hawks, owls, coyotes, skunks, raccoons, opossums, stray dogs, bob cats, etc.
A coyote came close to killing one of my White Leghorn girls once, but she was quick enough to escape. They are very quick and are very smart when predators are concerned.
If you still want a breed with more camouflage, though, Brown Leghorns are a good choice![]()
That’s good to know. The hawks generally come in the winter when there’s no tree cover. If there’s snow on the ground, they may have an advantage.
