Of my 7 five week old chicks my Russan Orloff is the most friendly and curious, the Barred Rock, Partridge Rock and little grey mystery chick run and hide thier little beaks in the corner.
I had a little easter egger that was my favorite. She used to sit in my lap to be petted and would nap on my shoulder snuggled against my neck. Unfortunately we moved and I had to give all of my chickens away. (Just moved again and expecting my new chickies the end of may) I also had an Australorp that liked to be petted.
Out of all my different breeds (buff orpington, delaware, SLW,GLW, and speckled sussex) the buff orpington and the speckled sussex are the friendliest. The wyndotte's are the most flighty so far. Iv'e had them since chicks and they range from 2-4 weeks old. Even as little chicks iv'e noticed the difference between the breeds. I'm hoping the wyndotte's will get better the more i handle them.
My buff orp chicks and one of my easter eggers are very friendly and like to be held (they are almost 5 weeks old). I have another EE who wants nothing to do with me and will freak out if I go anywhere near her.
My Barred Rocks are the friendliest so far, but also the oldest of my chicks. The past week or so, I have been leaving the lid off of the brooder when I clean it and they climb all over me. Henrietta comes and sits on my knee every time and watches me. She the smallest and sweetest. My Silkie was 4 months old when I got her and wasn't handled all the time like the BRs. She tolerates being held, but won't come to me. My Sultan is very shy. He/she still hides under the Silkie all the time. My Americauna and Wyandottes are younger and have been handled less, but are not afraid of me at all.
