Has anyone brooded fayoumis with a super chill and friendly breed, like Brahmas? Did it affect the personalities of either the Brahmas or the fayoumi? Wondering if it would mellow out fayoumis, but I definitely wouldn't want to make the Brahmas skittish.

Maybe if they were brooded under a brahma, but odds are the brahma would take after the skittish ones
So, to make sure I'm getting it right. You're thinking if I brooded them, in a brooder, together, the Brahmas would end up with more fayoumi personality, but the fayoumi would stubbornly remain skittish. But a mama brahma, might, have an effect? If the fayoumis remain skittish, that's fine, but I definitely want Brahmas that act like Brahmas! It was just a thought I had.

That's what I would expect. Easier to make something skittish than remove skittish traits

I don’t know... chickens are capable of learning behaviors, remembering things and people, but they also have traits that are genetic as far as what we think of as behaviors too. Birds I have raised together will respond differently to the same stimulus... for instance when we were tearing down an old coop the dark hen in the profile picture realized it and freaked, she started launching flying swoop attacks her buddy the light hen also in the picture just ran around in circles squawking. Same stimulus, same realization humans messing with their home, different responses... when startled as chicks they also reacted differently... one would jump up and spin, the other would duck down and run. These behaviors are genetic. So in chickens you have nature and nurture at work together, but nature often dominates. I sort of think they will be skittish no matter what.

I will be getting a few of this breed this summer so it will be interesting to see how they are compared to other breeds we have kept.

I’ve brooded 2 batches of fayoumis and my guess would be they will not be mellowed 😂 I bet they would possibly make the brahmas more skittish but that that could still be overcome by other influences

I do suspect they may chill out a bit with age if their fearless behavior doesn’t result in early death. But mine are all still too young to say for sure.
