FBCM egg production

So my fbcm’s about two years old are poor egg layers. I have 4 of them they payed there first year stopped for winter have never picked up well since. Occasionally I’ll get an egg. My RIR are egg machines. Is this normal for morans?

Quite normal. Marans bred for egg colour don’t usually lay many eggs. The commercial Marans (bred for production) do lay more eggs but they aren’t as dark. It does also depend greatly on the line. You may get a breeder who is focusing on egg colour, or production, or both.

My 2 year olds lay an egg every 3rd day or every other day sometimes, or whenever they feel like it. But they're still relatively dark. Can't have everything.
