FBCM Eggs, Day 14 Candling

Great! I saw your post. My point was to use a light source on both ends with the dark eggs, glad you worked it out.. Post photos of the chicks that hatch if you are so inclined.

I did a quick egg-topsy of the four eggs I removed.

Egg 1, which I always had doubts about. Not fertile or too damaged from shipping to develop.

Egg 3 which was an early quitter that had the black blob of death in it at 14 days. The dark matter is at the bottom of the photo.

Egg 5. This one was just so dark I couldn’t see anything. So waiting to see if it was full of chick on day 18 was the right thing to do. Either it wasn’t fertile or too damaged from shipping to develop.

Egg 8 which I didn’t post in my initial photos because it is the darkest of the really dark eggs. But it wasn’t full of chick when I candled it tonight, so I removed it. It also was either not fertile or too damaged from shipping to develop. Look at how dark that shell is! I have 2 in lockdown that are just as dark, and I REALLY want those chicks.

Now it’s time to wait for day 21. I will post updates as things progress.

I agree, I couldn't just throw them out without seeing what happened. I also observed that the shells and membranes on these eggs are very good quality. Obviously the hens that laid them are in good health and getting all the nutrients they need.

I have a pip on one egg! It’s at the very bottom of the picture. The chick peeps occasionally. The other two remaining are not pipped yet.

Almost there! This chick didn't waste time hatching.
