Does anyone know what could be wrong with this chick? It’s had this issue since it hatched out and none of its siblings have it. It looks like its feathers aren’t forming properly and when it first hatched its feathers were growing out in individual beads and not forming down like a normal chick. It basically looks mangy but mites are not the issue here. It’s also not being pecked the feathers just look like that on its head.

Where did you get the chicks from and what breed is it?

That reminds me of what happens sometimes when a frizzle silkie is bred to another frizzle silkie.

Otherwise, is this one smaller than it's siblings? It could be a FTT (failure to thrive) possibly.

One of my hens hatched them out. It’s a black Australorp x copper Maran cross breed. Ive had 24 chicks hatched out this year by hens and all have been fine so I don’t think it’s anything to do with the hens? It’s no smaller than the others and is just as healthy just a little odd looking.

I also own the parents and they both seem to have completely healthy and normal feather genetics
