My Gorgeous Cayuga, Loyd’s feathers are havin an issue which is kinda makin her look a lil raggedy. I rescued her as a duckling in mid May, so she’s around 8/9mos. Im not sure if she’s startin to molt or if it’s far worse being owning ducks is a first for me; I’m not even sure what too much or excessive preening is, or if she’s doin it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I do know she’s loosing lots of feathers, it doesn’t seem to be as many big feathers as there are lil pin like ones. I’ve included pics of her & a pinlike feathers. They are very small & seems maybe like she’s pickin em off under belly, but not certain. She’s still eating & everything good, she’s not just Hoggin food down like shes never been fed like normal but still a healthy appetite. Can someone Please take a look at the pics & tell me what’s goin on & what to do to fix it?? Please. Im pretty rural but I’m actually goin out of town in just a few mins that have a TSC, if there’s anything I can get for her there. Also, is there Anything you’d recommend me to pick up while I’m there to have on hand in the future. All advice Welcomed & Appreciated!! Thanks in Advance

last week it looked like a pillow fight happened in my front yard aka duck yard so many small white feathers all over the place After pool time they were preening and when they would go through their feathers they would fall out. Mini molts I call them. Is she inside mainly? with heat on in our houses this can also cause mini molts. There is a product called feather fixer I've never used it but I bet TSC has it. When mine are in full fledge molt they get extra protein like dried meal worms and small dry dog food.

Your duck is lovely and seems normal enough to me. My photos are of one of our pekins who looks a bit raggedy these days after molting. She's about the same age as yours and we have white feathers -- as if we split a bed quilt -- all over the garden
