I used the term meat pen too loosely, they are treated no different than my others, same feed, same TLC, same free range ability. They are just kept separate from my breeders, and their eggs are for consumption only, not breeding. The capons, I leave with the flock to continue growing and maturing. They are banded with red spiral bands for easy identification.
Whether reckless or not, you apparently have morals. If you don't have morals in life, you do not have anything. As I always say, I know a little bit about a lot of different things, but I do not know everything. My ears and eyes are always open and attentive. I don't let someone condemning my methods stop me. I care for my flock, they are not mistreated in any shape form or fashion, They eat and drink before I do, thy have shelter and space to roam. When sick I care for them, if they can not be healed I do not let them suffer, I end it as quickly and painlessly as humanly possible. I honestly can not stand cruelty or suffering in any animal.
I am no veterinarian for healing sick animals, or a food nutritional expert for feeding them, nor am I a genetic expert for breeding them and I have never claimed to be.. I do my best, to best of my knowledge. If I make a mistake, I admit my shortcoming and correct it as soon as I see I am wrong. I can say, I have always had healthy animals, and sickness is rare with any of them, and I normally have very nice offspring in what ever breed of animal I am dealing with. So when one is sick, it catches me off guard forcing me to find a cure if there is one. That is usually what leads me to BYC, others experience is priceless regardless of how long someone has had a flock. Whether its a few months, or a few years, everyone has a story to share and information that may be useful to someone. To criticize that is sheer stupidity on the condemning parties part. If one person has learned something, then it is well worth the effort.
With conflicting information, I try to get that person to clarify what they mean. Some people have a hard time putting their thoughts on paper. This can be a little confusing at times for people looking for answers. Even Doctors and scientist argue constantly, and if they are arguing about whats right and wrong, well I guess anyone here will do the same.
As long as you are happy with the results of your effort, nothing else matter.
Thanks again!
