Ok, I got my flock started about a month ago and 7 of the hens I got came with feather loss to their backs. I honestly think that maybe they came from an overcrowded situation and maybe some pecking was going on, but I can't be sure. I know they were well taken care of but possibly just too many in a small space. They have started to grow in some down where the missing feathers were and last week I noticed that our roo had been doing some damage to them on their backs under their wings. We despurred him so hopefully no more gashes will occur and applied blue-kote to the wounds. He is the lone roo to 8 hens so I don't think they are being overbred. Just wondering how long it takes to grow back the feathers?? I'm thinking if the feathers could grow back in, that they would be better off...
