Hello all,

Two Saturday's ago, we had a hen prolapse and we had to put her down. We had 3 hens, and now we have 2. I recently noticed that my Barred Rock has dried blood on the front of her neck and is missing feathers there. This morning, I saw the RIR peck at the Barred Rock's neck in that area.

What should I do? I am guessing that the RIR is trying to establish the new "pecking order," but my Barred Rock is suffering because of it. I ordered some Blue Kote which should arrive tomorrow, but I am wondering what else I should do. Should I remover the RIR for a while, or vice versa?

Thanks for any advice.

Since you have onyt two hens it would be easy to separate them. Put one in a dog crate while in the coop if you can't find a way to divide up the space for awhile. And the Blue Kote should help, but a few days apart as well is even better. Chickens can kill another chicken if they want to. They are very attracted to blood, so hens need to be removed if they have blood showing.
