My little ladies are about 9 mo. now. Since it's been getting dark earlier they are usually in their house at about 5 pm. They're spending probably a total of 14 hours in there. I'm sure I already know the answer to this but I want to get some other opinions. I heard that they usually don't go through their first moult until they're over a year and usually in the fall. Since this all started happening in the fall I don't know what to think. So are they bored and feather picking or are they moulting?
It's mostly the hackles, which look oily to me. One is also missing tail feathers.
This one looks like she has a big hole. You can see some feathers in there though.
Of course this is our top hen. She looks just fine.
