Hi there. I recently got two young Khaki Campbell ducklings as pets. They both came from the same breeder but they are 2 weeks apart in age. They are now 7 & 9 weeks old and usually inseparable. After they were given breakfast today they were left alone for roughly two hours then when we came back the younger one has a bloody bald patch in his tail feather region. We think the old one is responsible as it keeps nibbling there when it has the chance. Can anyone please give me any insight as to why this is happening? They are still all cuddly and lovey with each other and there is no animosity between them. Also what do we do??? My poor baby looks like it should be in pain but doesn't seem to be acting like its bothering it? Pics attached of the wound.

Thanks in advance!!

How big is the Brooder and what are you feeding?..Bordom and lack of protein could be the issue. You will need to spray on an antiseptic ointment and possibly separate them by wire till that heals. Dry cat food is great for added protein..Scrambled eggs also.

Hey, thanks for your reply! They have just moved into a playpen (see pic) until they are big enough for a big outside coop. They are handled and played with a lot so I don't believe boredom is an issue but I think maybe you might be onto something with the protein thing. We gave them scrambled eggs with zucchini for dinner tonight along with their starter crumble and I will get some cat food for them tomorrow and see how it goes! I have cleaned up Petrie's wound with antiseptic and hopefully it heals quick. Thanks again for your reply!

They are ready now to be moved.
That's too small for them ...Definitely bordom is an issue.
