I have 18 hens. I recently got rid of the rooster who was part of the issue but the feather plucking and bare spots persist. Please see pictures for examples. ALL of them have bare spots to varying degrees - backs, butts, necks and under wings.
No, I cannot let them out in the yard because I have a prey-oriented dog.
Yes, I have checked for and treated for mites.
Yes, I give them activities - flock blocks, hang cabbage, etc.
They are all healthy and laying eggs.
It is currently hot hot hot here in coastal North Carolina. My fear is when the cool temps hit late fall and want to head this off at the pass well before then.
What's my next step to rectify the problem please and thank you!

First, how big are your coop and run in feet? Second, what is their diet? What's the protein percentage of their feed? Third, is it just a few birds doing it or is everyone feather picking? Fourth, I'd put pinless peepers on everyone for a few weeks to see if that helps

My chicken run and coop area are, for memory, at least 10' x 32'.
The protein level of the current pellets currently 18%. I give them bread in the am, scratch mixed with fly larve/mealworms in the pm. Varied treats every so often - cabbage, watermelon, etc.
Yes, all of them have missing feathers to some degree.

I would cut out much of the scratch and especially the bread. They're OK as occasional treats, but they're basically junk food for them - particularly bread. I would again put pinless peepers on everyone to help break them of the habit

10x32 is a great size for a run with 18 birds.
But what size is their coop(enclosed place to sleep and lay)??
Pics might help here.

I would suggest you cut out all foods except the pellets.
Other foods offered sparingly once or twice a week.
