So from what I understand you can breed leghorns with certain breeds and get chicks get can be feather sexed. I also read that many hatcheries breed the leghorns in a way that they can be feather sexed and can no longer be used for feather sexing mixes. Is there a way to breed this out? If so how many generations would it take?

Quote: You want to be able to feather sex your chicks? From what I have read, this has to do with one or two copies of the K gene which is the fast feathering gene. Whether the birds carry 2 copies, or one copy, or no copies of the K gene. Try searching the whole forum for "fast feathering ; K gene ...and see what comes up. I also read several good webpages on the subject out on the Net.
Best,
Karen
