I frequently have broodies, but they are NOT the best. (ameraucanas)

Once they have chicks, they are good mamas but it's getting them to stay on the same nest in the coop that is the problem.

once they go broody i have heard you move the momma into a pen to sit on the eggs, with food and plenty of water, it doesn't have to be expensive either, the person that told me said that their dad used the outer shell of an air conditioner, (window unit), plus a little run to go to to get food and drink, and to poop

Yup thats right, once I find a hen has gone broody I will move her to her own small coop and give her about 3 unimportant(aged, to dirty for other perposes, ect) eggs and if she is still setting strong after 2 days then I will give her a full clutch. On the side, these are the breeds I have sucessfully used as broodies: Black Sexlink, Red Sexlink, Wyandotte, and OEGB. Here is my Splash Wyandotte on her first hatch of 2 chicks:

How are they doing?

Candled a few days later... Nothing. Not in one egg! So... i waited for a bit, and then bought some day olds from a friend. She is taking care of them, and is the perfect momma to her three babies!
