I am completely confused. I just hatched out 9 eggs from what I thought was a rhode island red rooster and 2 australorp/rir mixes. The one hen is black with turquoise and purple feathers on her back, but red bleed through on her neck. The other hen was black with turquoise and purple, with just a few specks of white on her neck. None of the 3 have feathered legs or feet. I hatched out 5 black chicks.... some with white markings, some with very yellow markings, 2 yellow chicks, and 2 brown/ red chicks. But, 4 of the 5 black chicks, and 1 of the brown chicks has feathered legs and feet. All 5 feathered leg chicks appear to be hens, based on feathering.
I got the hens and roosters from a local man who raises chickens, but i'm busy wondering how I got feathered legs!!

There must be feathered legs somewhere in their background. It can be very hard to guess breeds in a mixed breed bird.

I am thinking that the chicken with the red bleed on its neck is a black copper maran and wouuld explain feathered legs
I kind of thought this too after doing some reading. My hen, Goldie, died right after I started those eggs. I have eggs from just the 1 rooster and Red that I'm anxious to see what comes out of them.
