Feathered Leg Gene (( Pics added Post #12 ))

any of them have feather on their mid toe?

No- which makes it easy to tell the pures from the crosses at hatch.

Okay here is a few pics of the chicks I think are from my Light Brahma Hens and Silver laced Wyandotte Roo. The only other choice for the hen would be either Production Red, Golden Sex-Link or Barred Rock. None have feathered legs, not even a hint of feathers and none have a pea comb. They only have a single or rose comb. So Who is the mom...

A day old pic of one. Turned out to be a pullet. All four chicks looked like this, but the markings were not as dark.

My bet would be on the red, or gold sexlink being mom. As stated Brahma would throw feather leggs, and some form of pea comb. Some of the red sexlinks carry the columbian gene, so when combined with the columbian of the silver laced male could give you silver columbian pullets, and cockerels with some possible red leakage. The single comb on your young male causes me some concern, if your old male is pure wyandotte the chicks should show some variation of rose comb.

I think one of the girls has a rose comb. There is two girls and two boys that came out this color. My SLW Roo was for sure not show quality, and I do not know for sure if he was pure or not. I do not have any really good pics of him, but here is a few. He is a bit dirty and tore due to a fight with my Buff Brahma Roo. My SLW was a mean son of a gun and my Buff Brahma was a Hen beater so they are both in a better place now.

So you are thinking one of the Sex-links? Well I had one male chick that came out looking like a Sex-link male, Could he be from the production Red?

Depending on the genetic make up of the reds it's possible. The comb on the white/red chick is what I would expect on wyandotte cross.

So your thinking my sexlinks are a Delaware cross? I was doing a little reading about sexlinks. I can see that being the case and that would explane why there are no pea combs. Anyway, they should be good looking birds and lay good eggs, the girls that is.
