Feathering in Speckled Sussex

I guess my biggest question is: will she bleed to death? I let her up and tried putting some wonder dust wound powder on her feathers but she's right back to preening despite the awful taste. She's hanging out by me though. I'm both scary and comforting?

Hi, there. I was going to say that’s definitely picking, but then I read through the rest of the thread and I see you already know that. Be very careful, as that can lead to cannibalism quickly.

My former alpha hen, Margo, for some reason was picked in that same area by the third in command. During the worst times, I put an apron on her. The apron worked great. Switching them to a higher protein feed seemed to solve the issue, but then it may have contributed to some other problems, like carrying too much fat.

I ordered an apron, not sure when it will get here.
Parents are bringing over dog crates, one for inside and one for outside. Going to put one in the run so I can have her out during the day but separated, and the other inside for night time. I'm afraid if I separated her for too long she'd have a hard time re integrating. :/ she's not super low on in the pecking order, she just feathered slower. I tried to give them more protein treats (black soldier fly larvae) but then they all got diarrhea. :/

I just wanted to point out that he preen or oil gland is in that area, and that she will preen herself there and spread the oil on her feathers. Did you try any of the ointments that I suggested in the earlier post? Many have good luck with Nustock, pine tar, bag balm or even petrollium jelly, because of the taste and the sticky ointment.

I have made one piece no sew saddles out of polar fleece that slip over the wings and held on that way. A 2 inch slit on each side in a piece of 7x9 inch fleece works well, and can be trimmed once it is on. Here is a link with instructions and mine look similar:

At first when they are put on, the other chickens may freak out a bit, but they settle down pretty quickly

I couldn't find any of that stuff at tractor supply which is the only local store here. Only the stuff I posted about. I was hoping the no pick rooster booster would do what you were suggesting. I thought I had Vaseline here but haven't been able to find it and I haven't made my pandemic grocery run yet. (tractor supply does curbside pick up.)

Not sure what polar fleece is.. I live in Florida. I'll have to look it up after I isolate her.

Ok, I sent that and some patterns to my mom, I have zero fabric in this house and she likes to sew.

For now, Chipmunk is in a dog crate with bedding, food, and water in our office and seems to be relaxing.

Poor baby

After a few hours in the office, this is what it's looking like. She's definitely a lot less stressed. And she's actually trying to roost next to me in my armchair. My poor baby 😭 she's behing a lot more friendly too. Not picking, just normal preening. I think the others were picking and she was just trying to clean it up. :/

Pine tar, bag balm, and nustock cream are in the horse aise at most TSC’s.
Local TSC did not have any of that in stock, I searched it online, my local one doesn't carry it/wouldn't ship it. The stuff I posted was the ONLY stuff I was able to get locally. The rest either not available for pickup or when I ordered they cancelled it because they didn't actually have it. Like I said, was only able to get the rooster booster and wonder dust wound care from TSC- and I only got the vetricyn because I ordered from Chewy.com.
