We have quite a few chickens that for some reason never got tail feathers. Some of the chickens don't have any feathers on their back. They are not molting as this has been going on since we got them. They seem to be healthy and are laying but seems to me they should have feathers. We have other chickens that have all their feathers.

There are rumpless breeds of chickens

Could it be an amorous rooster?
Feather pulling from other hens?
Parasites?
Nutritional deficiency?
Molting?

I'll attach a link about feather loss:

from Vermont!!

I have some bald backed chickens in my coop and while I first thought it was an overzealous rooster I've since decided that I have a vicious feather picker

There are several girls that have been stripped bald and several with only small bald spots. I am in the process of figuring out who is the culprit so I can separate her for a few days to knock her down a few pegs on the pecking order.

Nice to have you here!
