Hey guys!
I hoping to get a silly question or two answered. I'm about 13-14 weeks into getting my first chickens so still new to it. My question is, when a chicken goes through its first molting do the feathers come in different (as in better or more defined pattern?) I have what I have decided a poorly patterned barred rock. Will she become more defined in her barring as she gets older? I have 4 Barred rocks and she is the only one like this. Thanks for your help!

*** Also her legs have a greenish blue wash down the front of the legs. My other ones have more of a greyish wash down the legs. Is there something wrong with her feet. ***

She almost looks like a mix to me. Feathers do change as they molt though, so if she is a purebred she may get more defined patterns as she gets older.

That would be ok if she is mixed. Do you have an opinion on what she would be mixed with? Also are her feathers ok? I know this sounds weird, but the only way I can explain it is her feathers seem thinner than the rest of the chickens I have (barred rocks and Barnevelders)

Her feathers look fine to me.

On the breed subject,

I would think she is a mix between a barred rock and a black bird, though genes can be weird sometimes. The green-blue legs are what I am looking at the most, maybe a mix with a blue legged breed?
I’m thinking she might just be a barnyard mix, since she has characteristics of a lot of breeds. She is beautiful none the less.

Hmm.. she definitely doesn’t look like a normal BR. Although depending on where she came from, some of those hatchery quality birds are pretty quirky. :) and yep, some do change a bit once they get in some adult feathers.

i will present you with my sebright cockerel Cojiro, who displays a nice change from juvenile plumage to adult. :) you can see the marks on his feathers as a juvie, which are no longer there on his adult plumage. (don’t mind the other fools in the pics or his poor little wrapped foot haha)

Thank you!! Her tail has always made me suspicious she got those feathers first! I can't wait to see what she looks like fully grown. I do appreciate your time!

Wow! Your birds are stunning!!!! I got my little lady from a small feed store. So I don't know where she came from. Do you know what the egg color could possibly be? Or maybe the types she could be mixed with? Lol forgive me I'm new to the chicken world and get excited with questions. I love the little boot on the little ones foot. Hope it's nothing serious and the little one gets better fast!!! Thank you for taking the time and answering!!!!
