My 6 week old silver laced wyadotte chick had a lump in its throat and wasn't eating or drinking. I took her up the vet and we expected maybe a stick. After a little op the vet found 8 feathers growing inside the gullet!!!! The chicks been stitched up had meds and is now eating and drinking etc. I expect they may grow back in which case it wouldn't be fair to keep her going. Has anyone encountered this as myself and vet are shocked!!!

Weird it certainly is! Freak of nature I guess. Really hope they don't come back. Lovely chick. Just hope the rest aren't growing any!!

I wonder if it is a teratoma. That's were a tiny bit of cells get displaced when a fetus is developing. They develop into whatever structure they should be, just in the wrong place. You can get hair, teeth, nails, etc in all sorts of strange places. If it can happen in mammals, maybe it happens in birds too.

Not sure why there's a post that says false by me. My phone doesn't like this forum tho. Yes it could be as seen that in mammals. Like the shed with a leg out its head!! We've gota cow on the farm with a extra horns. Wonder if its the new nuclear station up the road!!!! Lol.
