Feathers missing and antisocial

I had that thought in mind I just never had one acts so strangely and lose their tail feathers during a molt. I checked her over which was a struggle because she's not keen on being picked up but her vent and everywhere else seemed fine. I'm hoping it's just molt but I've never had an egg bound hen. What would look amiss if she was egg bound?

It is funny how they all deal with the molt differently. Most of mine just get on with things, but one hides in the coop under the nest boxes. It's like she's ashamed of her appearance. ;-) About half of mine lose their tail feathers and half don't. I hope it is just a molt you are dealing with!

This hen is about 18 months old and the other ones her age just finished molting. Actually all my hens just finished. All my other hens kept their tailfeathers. Actually you couldn't even tell except for all the feathers laying around. It looked like a chicken exploded in the run. LOL. The rooster is the only one that loses their tail feathers but I'm sure they all handle it differently

I don't see any pinfeathers poking through. But I will give a much closer inspection to that when I get home from work

I would 2nd the Molt conclusion. I have a big BLRW who takes it especially hard. She just doesn't feel good during the molt and it takes her a while to get back to her old self also. Lots of protein. Clean water everyday. Reduce or no treats that are not high in protein. I try to do a can of tuna fish once a week for everybody. ;)
I have a Blue Ameraucana that just in the last day looks like she stepped by a land mine with her feathers just dropping in the last day. LOL. Looks like a pillow fight in the coop.

I do give yogurt once a week. But I will try tuna because some of them don't like the yogurt because they always wipe their feet off afterwards so some of them stopped eating it It's just the first time one of them has acted so off from molting. Just looks sad

that's funny. You're right it does look like a pillow fight. Ha ha

I would also do a night check with the flash light to check for parasitic mites and lice. They like to take advantage of low immunity birds (molting or sick) and also as the temps are dropping they are looking for their winter accommodations. Migrating birds landing on lawns are landing on chicken territory also. They get chased off by my chickens and every once in a while we have a case of those buggers. And oh Joy to that situation. Yuck.
