Hey all! My wife and I are fairly new at the backyard chicken game and have had our 6 bird flock just about a year now. Here in the last few months I’ve noticed our hens have a good chunk of missing feathers off one specific spot of their backs. 2 of the birds ended up being roosters so they do mount them but I’ve never seen them hold them anywhere but the neck or head area when they do. But I suspect it has to be a result of that action as I can’t think of anything else. The roosters are untouched but all 4 hens have the same spot of missing feathers and I worry it could be an issue come next fall and winter. Picture is of the best (worst) example of this. They seem healthy otherwise but it looks awful and would like to fix it obviously. We are looking to part ways more than likely with both roos because they have been fighting some and seem to cause more problems then they are worth at this point.
