I keep my birds on all-flock or chick starter with oyster shell on the side and I’ve never had picking problems. You can try switching feed or swapping the vegetable scraps for some sardines a couple times a week. I don’t give a lot of scraps because mine free range so occasionally they will get an apple core or something but if they’re molting I will give them sardines and they gobble them right up
