Hello,
My wyandotte hen, Barbara, has been all scraggly for almost 4 months. She tries to grow her feathers back, but they seem to get pulled out or chewed away. What can be causing this? She is still her normal self but more scared of her flock mates then normal. I have her inside and she is more social with me. Her diet is Natures best organic feeds layer and fresh water everyday. I'm starting to give her extra vitamins and I read B12 can help. How else should I help her? Her feathers also have a stronger smell to them then her flock mates.
She is also the only one in the whole flock who is having this problem.

Thank you!

Awe, poor Barbara!

You didn't mention molting, and that's what I would guess she's going through. If she's not laying, that would also go to molting.

Regardless of reason, a high-protein diet helps feather growth. You might want to get a small bag of an all-flock for her. That would be around 22% protein vs. yours, that is 16%. If you don't have any oyster shell, she'll need some as all flock is low in calcium.

Scrambled eggs are a good high-protein treat!

But she hasn't changed since around July. When mine molt it normally only takes around 1-2 months for all the feathers to grow back. That's why I'm posting since it seems as if her feathers can't come out. 🙂

To my knowledge, some I read are like yours, as are most of mine. Some can take several months. I have two silkies that each took nearly a year. One was a pet quality midget silkie, so I attributed it to that. Then the most recent one, a buff frizzle I posted in the worst molt contest, she took nearly a year too! They both looked like yours for a while, then eventually lost nearly all of their feathers. Then ran around half nekid for a month or two and finally started growing them back.
