Generally how long do these take to grow back?

with all the rain i hope not too long

It depends on the bird and the reason they're missing.

as they are rescued hens i have no idea what breed they are and i suspect its where they have been plucked out from other birds

Here's what I noticed with mine. If the boys decided to play stupid they poke their heads where they don't belong which allows the boy on the other side to pick his head clean. Those feathers seem to grow back very rapidly. Usually within a couple of days I begin to see tiny new quills.

During molt, this varies greatly. Some birds will regrow rapidly. Some go through a very hard molt and are slow to regrow new feathers.

Can you post a photo(s)? Rooster removed feathers usually are on the back of the head, and back & back of wings. Molting feather can be anywhere. Pecking from other hens is often around the tail & vent. Self- pecking from parasites can be anywhere, but often around the vent. You need to pick up your birds and examine carefully for lice & mites- treat if you see any. If the birds are molting, you may see bloodfeathers. If the feathers were pulled out by something/someone- you should see regrowth in a few weeks, if the birds are otherwise healthy. If the feathers are broken off at the skin from rooster damage or other hens picking on them, they will not grow back until the shaft molts out on it's own- which may be several months or longer depending on when they 'decide' to molt. Photos again, would be helpful.

i have a picture of them but haven't got a clue on how to post it on here, and its not that good of a pic since its of them in the dog cage we got them from the farm in.

I definately don't think its them molting as they are totally bald in some areas as if bought one from the supermarket.

hopefully that has worked, they are also under my trampoline cover for them not to get wet while i sorted their new home out

also one has been laid in the corner all day - could she be dying as this is whats happened to the others that have died
