I don't think the broody will work out. She is basically just an incubator. She sits there all day, but SUCKS at protecting her eggs. I could pet her and steal her eggs without her even noticing. Its like her mind is elsewhere...

I'm afraid the growling/pecking/puffing up was just a one night thing :hmm

That’s too bad. Are they going to have to stay in the house then?

Pippin didn't peck me and she let me hold her chucks and eggs. She was still an amazing mama

Another white egg hatched this morning, another white chick.
The chick that hatched this morning gave me a BIG scare today. I got her out into the brooder after she had been in the incubator for several hours. I watched her for several hours and she was doing really well! And then all of a sudden, I went over to check and she was on the farther end of the brooder, lifeless, and cold! 😟

I quickly moved her under the heat lamp, but the other chicks were crowding her. So then I ended up putting her into the incubator to try and see if she will get better. Now, in the present, she is chirping and walking around in the bator. Whew! VERY close call!!

I think I will keep her in the bator for a few more hours...she seems to be weaker than the others. Won't want to make the same mistake again.

I owe you guys lots of photos!
