Feed and protein?

I have allways fed my bobwhites purina startena 30% ..I was wondering if I could get away with a lower protein (for the adults) to cut cost? Anyone?

They make a game bird maintenance feed for adults that is 12.5% protein. It isn't a lot cheaper. I use it for my roosters.

you probably would use it in winter
during breeding season, you perhaps would want to mix it half and half

I think they also make a 20% for adults.

Someone on this forum said bobwhites just get fat if they get that much protein. I don't remember how much the suggested % was, but I don't think 20% would be a problem for adult bobs.

I use a 20% layer feed for my hens. Purina sells a 19% general purpose gamebird food.
