thinking about getting 100 frypan special cockerels and was wondering what the daily or weekly feed would be. Never had that many chicks and wondered if it would be cost effective to raise them for food. They will be heavy breed. Also if they were raised without hens would they still be real aggresive and fight amongst each other. any help would be appreciated.

My hens eat .5 lbs ea. a day during winter. When free ranging as point of lay pullets last fall was maximum of .33 lbs, that's when I had to leave them in run for most the day. When growing out weeks 10 to 18 was .2 lbs and free ranged half days.

Those that raise meat birds will have better answers. You could repost the question in that catagory if you don't get many answers here.

They will start to fight as they approach maturity with or without hens. The first signs will be them charging one another with heads down and hackles up. I had my hands full with three, I can't imagine 100.

I agree with Egghead that you will get better info in the meatbird section.

A bag of feed per 4 days when finishing is more realistic. Of course it's much less when they are chicks.

I also go pick green grass and throw in pens and go get wheat cleanings. We feed ground liver with cooked rice and cooked oatmeal mixed in and protein supplement to ours too. Seems like they eat alot but they are growing. I mix feed to so it lasts longer. I take 1 bag of chick starter and mix it with 1 bag of milo and 1 bag of rolled or cracked corn. The 3 bags make 150lbs total of feed and helps give your chicks different nutrition

while they are small 50 lbs week is realistic. As they grow you will go through 100lbs a week. I think you will go through 150 lbs week right before you butcher them.
