Does anyone know if feed mills sell a feed that is high protein that I can feed to my whole flock? Something like pruinas flock raiser? I contacted one near me and they told me I would need three different feeds. One for my laying hens, one for my chicks/ non laying hens and one for my roosters. I’ve been looking on other feed mill websites and can only seem to find chick feed and layer feed. What do other people feed roosters?

I'm not fortunate enough to have any local mills, but my understanding is that each mill is different.
Same, we do not have a mill by us. We do have a feed store that makes their own chicken feed, but I haven't been super impressed with the protein amounts (seems to change-maybe based on what is available) or the freshness (seems they make more than they sell).

Hopefully you can find a mill near you that will be able to serve your needs.

Definitely call your local extension office, or spend an hour at your local co-op. Every mill is different, but its almost unimaginable that a mill which produces bulk feed for chickens won't have a feed mix meeting your needs. Usually called "starter" or "grower" if not "all flock" or "flock raiser" - the answer will be found by reading the nutritional labels.

They asked me is I was feeding turkey feed to my chickens because I requested 20% protein and then told me I needed layer feed with 17% protein. They weren’t willing to make anything special for me. Which I thought feed mills could do.

Thank you everyone. It’s good to know I can feed starter to my whole flock. I didn’t know that. I’ll be looking into different mills and calling the local extension like suggested. There’s plenty of mills around me. Not just the one I contacted.

Remember, they have products to sell. They will be eager to tell you all sorts of things that you"need". Reality is, if you offer a variety of things, they will eat what they need. How can anyone keep a rooster from eating the hens feed and vice versa? I have never worried about such things. I do make sure chicks have high protein. And mating birds get extra. But outside that, the flock all eats the same feed.
