Hi,

I started buying feed from a mill last year. Our 4-h leader advised us to use his mix. His kids chickens have won grand champion at the fair, at least 2 years in a row.
This is the mix"
50 lb rolled corn
50 sunflower
110 layer crumbs
190 whole oats
50 soy meal
10 lime
10 ADDk?
10 molasses
my chickens don't look nearly as big as his. Occasionally when I go in, the mixture will have changed a little. My chickens also seem to leave the oats til last.
I am also feeding 10 muscovy ducks and 4 turkeys.
Any ideas of a good mix for my flock?
thanks

5 parts whole shelled flint corn.
10 parts race horse oats.
15 parts lay pellets.
5 parts pig chow.
1 part Calf Manna.
2 parts millet. (be sure that your millet is not the bird resistant kind.)
2 parts hard red wheat.
2 parts pearled barley.

During cold weather decrease the oats to 5 parts and increase the flint corn to 10 parts.
You also can add some dry kibble dog or cat food. Some times I have gone with alfalfa pellets but this is often wasted mostly because chickens don't like green food as much as some of you think.

Oyster shell and grit is served in a pair of Vienna sausage cans.

You're reinventing the wheel.
Why not just layer feed for birds actively laying and grower or all-flock feed for others?
Over 100 years of nutritional research has gone into those formulas. They have all the nutrients chickens are known to need in the appropriate ratios.
