I went to the feed store yesterday and got feed for my quails. The guy working the warehouse told me that a lot of pigeon and quail farmers will buy a combination of the game feed, chicken scratch, and different grains. The idea behind this is it gives the birds all the nutrition they need but makes the feed go further, saving money. Anyone have a good mixture they would recommend?

Most companies make a game bird feed that is high protein (24% +) this is what I recommend feeding. Adding in things can throw off the balance in the feed, and cause issues with your birds. http://wildlife.purinamills.com/products/ECMD2-0017382.aspx is considered the best stuff you can get to feed quail. I use a 28% mix available at the local feed store.

I have been feeding my birds turkey starter and they seem to be doing well. I was told the turkey starter is an acceptable feed for quail, it has 30% protien. A 50 lb bag costs $18 at my local feed store.
