Feed question...a feed.

Hello again my friend
Starter Mash and Starter Crumbles are the same feed, only difference is the mash is ground finer than the crumbles. Go ahead and feed the mash with no worries.

That is not correct.

Mash is simply mixed feed made up of ground corn and other ingredients.

Mash is used to make pellets and crumbles.

Crumbles are made 'crumbling' pellets.

OK you've made your point and being in the feed business I'm sure you are correct but, huntsman is asking if it is OK to substitute Mash for crumbles because he/she cannot find crumbles. Two of us say it is OK and you are not answering the question.

As long as you are feeding the correct amount of protien, it's more a preference of mash vs crumbes vs pellets. I feed the crumbles - my local mill makes it - the chicks eat it fine and grow well. I like it more than mash because I think they waste less. Which, when they get older, is why I go to a pellet. Again, I get my feed from a local mill and the birds do well on it. Also, I notice a difference in "waste" smell. The poop is not as bad with a fresh milled feed than I had when we were feeding purina or TSC feeds. Just my experience.....

I am sorry if my attempt to correct misinformation that is rife on BYC offends you.

My two posts were an attempt to illustrate that mash and crumble/pellet starter feeds are identical feeds, just different forms.

TIME OUT!

No time for egos in this thread - it's about the chooks, folks...

Thanks for all of the input. I'll stick with what I have in the meantime, but as was mentioned by our colleague, mash does seem a little messier, and with their feathers growing alarmingly, the two brooders are like lil' dust bombs!
