Feed question

Your post made it appear as if you intended on getting chickens, My comments were directed toward that ,and your other posts referring to having financial problems.
Just adding some common sense thoughts, as I said no malice intended.

Well to answer your question:

I have 5 birds, and a 50lb bag of Layena lasts "forever" -- I mean like, 2-3 months.

Flock raiser for 8 babies plus giving some to the adults - 50# lasted about 1.5 months. Growing chickens eat more.

Keep in mind that free ranging or tractoring cuts feed costs DRAMATICALLY. All my birds free range or tractor around the yard.

probably wont happen from MONTHS from now but nothing wrong with gathering up the information now.

Sorry but I agree with those who have said you probably have other things to be worrying about at this point in time. Another thing to remember is if and when you get some hens they are not going to lay year round, but will continue to need feed whether they're laying or not. I would assume since you recieve WIC that you are currently recieving free eggs thru them. Chickens and their feed may not be an added expense you need.

Lay off folks! Sometimes people need a sideline from life. I tend to daydream about chickens too. It relieves stress.

4 lb layer hens in a controlled environment average .25 lbs a day. For birds that get a lot of exercise and are exposed to varying temperatures probably eat around .35 lbs a day, depending on how much forage they get elsewhere.
